About John Holzbaur
Jacksonville Attorney.
Retired Naval Flight Officer.
Advocate for the People He Serves.
A Different Kind of Attorney
Before John Holzbaur ever set foot in a courtroom, he spent 23 years serving his country as a Naval flight officer — including Special Operations deployments and command roles that most people will never experience. That background shapes everything about the way he practices law.
After retiring from the Navy, John joined the Public Defender's Office and helped establish the Fourth Judicial Circuit Veterans Treatment Court — working to keep justice-affected veterans out of the traditional criminal system and connected to the support they earned. He earned his law degree Cum Laude from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2017, attending night classes while working in the court system during the day.
He was later recognized by the City of Jacksonville for his work on behalf of veterans. It's the kind of recognition that reflects what John has always been about — showing up for people when it matters most. That's still what he does, every day, at Holzbaur Law.
John understands what it means to operate when the stakes are high and the margin for error is small.
He brings that same mindset to every case he handles at Holzbaur Law.

Service Before the Law
Twenty-three years. That's how long John Holzbaur wore the uniform before he ever picked up a law degree.
He served as a Naval Flight Officer, flew Special Operations missions, instructed jet pilots, and served as Tactical Action Officer aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. He was deployed to Afghanistan. He knows the military not as an outside observer, but as someone who lived it at every level — from the flight deck to the command post.
When active-duty service members at NAS Jacksonville or Naval Station Mayport walk into Holzbaur Law facing a court-martial, a discharge they don't deserve, or a VA claim that was wrongly denied, they're not explaining their world to someone who has only read about it. They're talking to someone who has been there.
That's a difference worth having in your corner.
Outside the Office
John and his wife Anastasia have been married for 33 years. They have three daughters — Maeghan, Eve, and Ana — and have been parishioners at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Riverside since 1993. Jacksonville isn't just where John practices law. It's home — and has been for a long time. What You Can Expect From Holzbaur Law
